Six Steps For Creating Your Own Website

Creating a website can be a satisfying experience for someone who is looking to publish their work, promote their own business, or share things about their hobbies, their family, and their life. If you have never built a website before, here are some steps to take to get your new website off to a great start.

Step 1: Determine what the focus of your website will be.
Have an idea of a few things that will be included on the site. This may include pictures and information about products you are selling, blogs or opinions about hobbies and experiences you've had, or portfolio items along with an updated resume. It's also important to think about what functions you'd like people to be able to perform on the website, such as post responses to your blog, make purchases, or take surveys.

Step 2: Make a plan or map for what pages go where on your website.
Drawing a flow chart can help you to properly link the various pages of your site together, and help you make sure you haven't left anything out.

Step 3: Decide on the actual method of creating your new website.
Here are a few options to consider:
· If you have the time and interest, you can learn HTML (if you don't already know it), and build a site from scratch. This way, you won't be limited to certain templates or functions.
· If learning HTML is not something you want to do, there are many software programs that help you design your own website without having to learn HTML. These programs are usually intuitive and easy to use, and come with a selection of templates to start you out. Usually, good quality sites can be made using this method.

· The other method of website creation would be hiring someone else to create it for you. If you choose this method, research the website designers that you are considering hiring. Check out other websites they have built. Compare pricing, too. Make sure that the person designing your site understands your vision for the site, and the functions and purposes it needs to fulfill. Also, make sure that they understand your flow chart.
Once you decide on the method, get the site built and ready to roll.

Step 4: Pick a Domain name.
This is a very important step, because the name of the site will greatly influence the number of visitors you have to your site. It should be something that is easy to remember and easy to spell. For businesses, it is usually best if the name also reflects the products and services featured on the website. Once you have a domain name, register it.

Step 5: Inspect your website.
Have a few people test out your new website for usability and appeal. Sit with them as they navigate through your site, but do not help them. You will likely find things that need to be touched up or implemented. Take notes as they test your site, so that you won't forget the things you still need to do.

Step 6: Post your site!
Once your site is posted update it and maintain it as needed.
If you have never considered creating a website before remember that it will take some time and effort to learn and do the things necessary to publish your site. But you may find that it is easier than you thought it would be!
